Canadian Versatility Award

Canadian Horse Breeders Atlantic District

The stats:
The Horse who has so far collected the most points: Temis Elf-Esaie Hermes
("Strider") with 208 points.
The horse that earned the most points in 2006: Rohirrim Flic Nordica - she earned 67 points for her first year.

The aim of a versatility award is to encourage Canadian Horse Breeders Association-Atlantic District  (CHBA-AD) members to use their Canadian horses in a variety of activities, many of them in non-traditional areas. The CHBA-AD Versatility Award allows us to recognize those horses that truly reflect the versatile nature of the old stock Canadian Horse. It gives us a means of evaluating the overall capabilities of various horses, and of promoting the breed to others. The association feels these horses are acting as ambassadors of the Canadian breed to the general public and to prospective owners, and should be recognized for their efforts. The local association acknowledges and rewards the owners and their Canadians for participation in activities outside the show ring. The emphasis of this award is on participation, not competition.

The award is cumulative, as it adds up over the life of the horse, and if the horse gets sold, then accumulated points go with the horse to the new owner. To be eligible for an award, the horse must acquire points in at least 4 different activities. It is the responsibility of the owner to record the activities of each horse and to submit those records to the Association office each fall, for the awards to be distributed at the next AGM.. In other breeds, such as the Morgan, it is a national award, but we are starting locally.  The list of activities that we use is attached and the point values indicated in brackets. Also attached is the form that will be used by the owner to record their horse’s participation in each year. If an owner is accumulating points for more than one horse, then each horse requires separate form.

CANADIAN VERSATILITY RULES

a) Horse must be a purebred Canadian that is registered with the Canadian Livestock Records Corp.

b) Owner/Lessee of the horse must be a current member of the CHBAD. If ownership changes, the points stay with the horse and the new owner may continue to submit points providing all the rules are met.

c) You must participate in a minimum of 4 different activities to be considered for any award. Remember that these points are cumulative, so that if you don’t have enough points in one year for an award, the points that you do have will count towards next year’s total, so still get your forms into the office.

d) There is no limit to the number of awards earned in any year.

e) Points are accumulated throughout the year and are recorded by the owner/lessee on the registration sheets. These forms must be submitted (or postmarked) by December 31 of each year (points will count from Jan 1 through to Dec 31).

HOW TO ENTER:

Keep score of your horses’ participation throughout the year on the form provided. Make copies of this form as needed for each horse. Don’t forget that contact information for the organizer of each activity that you claim must be entered on the form.  A registration fee of $25.00 for the lifetime of the horse must be submitted to the CHBA-AD office before points will count. This is a one-time fee for each horse. Include this registration fee the first time you submit your yearly record. Only paid entries will be recorded and considered for awards.
